These works were inspired by the haunting images of the fire that devastated the upper Blue Mountains on and around the artist’s family property.

The fire was so intense it left a monochromatic scene of the deepest blacks against a smokey white sky and parched sandy earth. Exposed, naked and vulnerable was everywhere but there was also a strong spiritual presence signified by the silver leaf, an other worldliness that reflected back at me with a quiet defiant power and it whispered…”I’m going to rest a while and in my slumber I will mend and return stronger than ever…I am ancient, your kinds presence is here violent but fleeting…
