Lee Jae Hyo is known for his mesmerising use of natural materials, particularly wood and metal, to create striking, organic sculptures. Born in 1965 in Hapchen, South Korea, he studied plastic arts at Hongik University before developing his distinctive artistic approach.
Lee’s work is characterised by his frequent use of logs and branches, or metal pieces to form fluid forms ranging from massive spherical sculptures to intricate, flowing installations. His process involves burning, carving, and sanding wood to reveal its textures, creating works that are both rustic and refine and have a wonderful organic quality.
Internationally acclaimed, Lee Jae-Hyo has exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, earning numerous awards, including the prestigious Hankook Ilbo Young Artists Award. His work is celebrated for transforming raw, natural elements into contemporary masterpieces that challenge perceptions of material and form.
